| ALERT calculates Shots Past Due and Shots Due Now for individuals through age 23 years. | |||||||||||
All the tables and forecasts are based on ACIP recommendations (external link) for acceptable age, minimum intervals and recommended/exceeds age ranges.

| Important definitions for computer forecasting and recalls: | |||||||||||
2: Minimum interval until next dose means the absolute minimum wait between shots in accordance with ACIP/AAP and the Health Services Recommendations. See table for examples. 3: Default recommended age means a time selected within the acceptable range defined by ACIP/AAP and the Health Services Recommendations. See table for examples. 4: Exceeds recommended age means when an individual has not received the immunizations needed within the ACIP/AAP recommended age ranges, the forecast and recalls will be flagged with a note indicating these immunizations are past due. It is important to understand that the computer forecasting and recall postcards must be based on evaluation of the patient's history, screening out any shots that were not given in the acceptable age range and/or did not have the minimum interval between doses.
| Immunization forecasting works as follows: | |||||||||||
If a patient comes into the immunization clinic the computer will forecast shots past due and/or shots due now if:
SECOND - the minimum interval has elapsed since the previous shot(s), AND; THIRD - the patient was age fourteen or younger, AND; FOURTH - the patient's age exceeds the recommended range for that dose of vaccine (shots past due), or the patient's age is at the recommended age, but does not exceed the recommended range for that dose of vaccine (shots due now), AND; FIFTH - there are no contraindications or history of disease (except for varicella) for the shot(s) on the patient's record. If there is a contraindication or history of disease, a manual forecast is required, AND; SIXTH - if applicable, the attached table footnotes have been appropriately applied. Of particular importance is the 4 day grace period that applies to most minimum ages and minimum intervals. The footnote will indicate if there is an exception to this rule that states that if a dose of vaccine was given 4 days or fewer before the minimum age or minimum interval that the dose is acceptable. If the minimum age or minimum interval was violated by 5 or more days, the dose will be forecast again. This applies only to checking records retrospectively. The recommended ages and intervals will used for forecasting. Please call Janis Betten [971] 673-0292 if you have questions or identify any problems.
